IYENGAR YOGA CLASSES in SIDMOUTH – weekly classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in addition there are yoga mornings.
All classes are of a general level so whether you are a beginner or if you have some yoga experience the classes will be suitable.

IYENGAR YOGA MORNINGS
I teach three hour yoga mornings – these give you a great opportunity to deepen your practice and immerse yourself in yoga.

Joining a yoga class If you’re interested in joining a regular class you’re welcome to come to one class for a half price taster session. After your taster you will join for a block of classes. Blocks vary in length, and are usually between 4 and 8 weeks long.Once you have paid for a block you have secured a place in that class. If you need to miss a class for any reason you can do a “catch up” class on another day during that block (sorry, catch up sessions can’t be carried over to the next block).Classes are organised in blocks for admin purposes, it is possible to join part way through a block.

  • wear comfortable clothes, nothing tight around the waist – leggings and T shirt are fine
  • be prepared to work in bare feet
  • let me know at the beginning of a class if you have a period, cold, backache or are feeling under the weather for any reason.

Working in the yoga asanas involves lots of different movements so make sure your food has had plenty of time to digest. It is recommended that you leave two hours after a snack and four hours after a full meal.

In the class you will be introduced to the basic asanas which will include standing poses, sitting poses and recuperative (resting) poses. You will be shown how to use yoga props, such as belts and blocks, to help you achieve the postures to the best of your ability.

If you are a beginner you will start by building strength and stamina, improving muscular tone, flexibility and alignment. Yoga helps to reduce tiredness and soothes the nerves. It also trains and disciplines the mind so concentration is improved. This is why yoga is so helpful if you suffer from stress.
