Bring your yoga mat…

adI am often asked “What is Iyengar yoga?” and “What makes Iyengar yoga different to other styles of yoga?”

The best way to answer these questions is to come along, have a go and experience Iyengar yoga for yourself!

I am offering THREE opportunities to come along to try a class for FREE in Sidmouth. Taster sessions give you the opportunity to try a basic yoga class and ask any questions about this method before classes start properly the following week.

So, here are the details:

Tuesday 12 April from 1.00 to 2.30pm, in the URC Hall, Primley Road,.

Thursday 14 April from 9.45 to 11.15am in Kennaway House.

Thursday 14 April in the evening from 6.00 to 7.30pm in Kennaway House

Bring your yoga mat and your friends!

Chair yoga

chair 17Often people think you need to be strong, flexible and active to do yoga… not so!

chair 16One of the many wonderful things about yoga is that it is possible for everyone to practice.  Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support so, whether you have difficulty getting up and down from the chair or have limited mobility, Chair Yoga may be for you.

Here are Gillian’s comments about chair yoga:

“Initially I thought chair yoga was aimed at the elderly but having tried it I wish I had started my journey earlier. Barbara gives a thorough session covering the whole body which you can follow at your own level depending on ability and capacity. The hand exercises have been particularly beneficial for my acute arthritis and I am now benefiting from greater flexibility and mobility. I wholeheartedly recommend her class whatever your physical limitations are. I am sure the exercises will help.”

Yoga at Jala Flow

Tomorrow will be my first class at Jala Flow –  Jala translates to water and the spirit of Jala runs through this beautiful studio, based just a moment’s walk from the beach, in the stunning South Devon Coastal Town of Sidmouth. I will be teaching a weekly Iyengar yoga class on Friday mornings from 11.15am to 12.30.

I am so looking forward to getting back to teaching after a break of nearly a month as well as looking forward to working with Louise and Tom who run the studio.

I will be starting more classes after Easter elsewhere in Sidmouth – with details to follow soon.

On the move…

What a moving time!

Moving home from Suffolk to East Devon an exciting and exhausting time… and saying moving farewells to Iyengar yoga students in Suffolk, many have been coming to classes since I started teaching there in 2003.

change

So it is all change… fortunately wonderful and experienced teachers have been able to take on the classes in Suffolk – and I will be setting up classes very soon in the Sidmouth area in Devon as soon as I have settled in.

A Seasonal Stretch!

holly Between Christmas and New Year this will be the last yoga morning of 2015, so don’t miss it!

What a wonderful way to enjoy a chilly winter morning. A three hour practice is a great way to deepen your yoga experience. And don’t worry – three hours won’t be exhausting! The class is carefully paced, we start with pranayama then progress to asana practice with plenty of time for relaxing asanas at the end.
